Walking
Walking at Hambleton
There are many fantastic walks close to Hambleton.
The Fisherman’s track around the Hambleton Peninsular, accessed from our land, is the favourite first walk for many of our guests. I encourage you to peruse my Things To Do booklet. Inside are numerous walks including those through market towns, around Rutland Water and other walks in the neighbourhood.

The Perfect Setting
The distance is around five miles, offering constantly changing views of lake and landscape. Glimpses of sailing regattas, Normanton Church, Burley-on-the-Hill House, as well as wildfowl of many kinds justify bringing a pair of binoculars. The Finch’s Arms pub is handy for refreshment on the way home.
Walking information
The Hotel can supply maps for many other excellent walks further afield, usually involving a 15-minute drive. The circuit of Grimsthorpe Castle and a number of circuits in the hilly country to the west of Oakham are popular walking choices. Closer to home, with the aid of a taxi or lift, part of Rutland Water’s 25-mile circumference walk can be dealt with in a morning or afternoon.
There is a full range of high quality Le Chameau boots available to borrow should you leave yours at home. These excellent boots have been provided by our partners to ensure your comfort.
